CALENDAR ART - PACIFIC ISLAND TAPA

We thought we would share our calendar art with you.
These are all in a yellow clear file folder at our school office so that orders for a 2014 calendar can be made and paid for.  They make fantastic christmas gifts for family members.

Our artwork also linked into our geometry unit this term.

There were many stages in making our calendar art:
1.  Folding a square from an A4 piece of paper
2.  Folding the paper so we had symmetrical quadrilaterals and triangles to help with our design
3.  Using a 'pacific island' theme of flowers to create a symmetrical design
4.  Colour in bold colours with waxy crayon
5.  Scrunching the paper up outside several times to get a flaky look
6.  Covering it in watered down brown dye and left to dry
7.  Once dry, we placed it face down on newspaper and ironed it
8.  Watered down dye painted onto our calendar art base and left to dry
9.  Glued our tapa cloth design onto the base for our finished piece
